Fortress Louisbourg Association (FLA) is proud to acknowledge that we operate and reside in Unama’ki (1 of 7 districts) of Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People.

This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik and Passamaquoddy People first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with the surrender of lands and resources but, in fact, recognized the Indigenous title and established rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.

We are all Treaty People.

FLA also recognizes the 400+ year history of communities of African descent and the 50 Strong and Resourceful African NS communities that exist today. We acknowledge our commitment to the struggle against systems of oppression that have resulted in profound inequities and the denial of self determination rights.

FLA is committed to work actively to deepen our learning and provide learning opportunities about anti-racism and decolonization to the sector, and to develop partnerships with organizations serving and led by underrepresented groups.

Fortress Louisbourg Association

We are a proud, non-profit, charitable, membership-driven organization. The Fortress Louisbourg Association works with Parks Canada in ways that ensure the commemorative and ecological integrity of the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site is sustained for present and future generations. Founded in 1976, our three period restaurants, bakery, coffee shop, and two gift boutiques help visitors understand, appreciate and enjoy the largest reconstructed 18th century French fortified town in North America.
