Job Summary

The Server is a key member of the Food Services team, responsible for ensuring guests enjoy a high-quality and memorable dining experience within the Fortress Louisbourg Association’s restaurants. The Server greets and seats guests, takes and processes orders, communicates effectively with kitchen staff to ensure timely delivery of food and beverages, and handles payment transactions accurately. The Server maintains a strong knowledge of menu items and provides recommendations based on guest preferences. This role also supports the historic atmosphere of the site by wearing period costume and engaging visitors in a welcoming and professional manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and seat guests in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately and serve items promptly.
  • Provide menu recommendations and beverage pairings based on guest preferences.
  • Ensure guests have an enjoyable dining experience from start to finish.
  • Accurately process transactions using a cash register and Square POS system.
  • Communicate clearly with kitchen staff to ensure efficient service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area, including tables, chairs, and floors.
  • Assist with setting up and cleaning down the dining room before and after service.
  • Restock service supplies as needed.
  • Wear and properly maintain the required 18th-century costume.
  • Answer basic questions about the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, including general history and the schedule of experiences.
  • Cross-promote other Fortress Louisbourg Association offerings, including King’s Bakery, gift shops, tavern, and special events.
  • Follow all food safety, health, and workplace safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Qualifications and Attributes

  • Previous experience in a restaurant or hospitality environment, preferably as a server.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service, including menu items and pairings.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, and willingness to learn.
  • Flexible schedule with availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Reliable transportation to the Fortress of Louisbourg.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • French language skills are an asset, but not required.
