Job Summary

The Cafe Attendant is a member of the Food Services team responsible for delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced café environment. The Cafe Attendant greets customers, takes and prepares orders, serves food and beverages, processes payments, and maintains a clean and organized café space. This role requires strong attention to detail, efficiency, and professionalism while contributing to a welcoming and positive visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Take customer orders accurately and prepare food and beverages efficiently.
  • Serve food and drinks promptly while ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Accurately process transactions using a cash register and Square POS system.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the café area, including tables, counters, equipment, and dishwashing as required.
  • Restock supplies and monitor inventory levels as directed.
  • Ensure food and beverages are stored and prepared according to health and safety standards.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures.
  • Answer basic questions about the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, including general history and daily programming.
  • Cross-promote other Fortress Louisbourg Association offerings, including King’s Bakery, gift shops, tavern, and special events.
  • Follow workplace health and safety guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Wear and properly maintain period-appropriate costumes.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • Previous experience in a café or restaurant environment preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Basic math skills and experience handling cash and electronic payments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Reliable transportation to the Fortress of Louisbourg.
  • French language skills are an asset, but not required.
