Restaurant de la Marine
Where hearty meals meet historic charm
Step into the 18th century and experience the rustic hospitality of Restaurant de la Marine, located within the Fortress of Louisbourg. Once the home of Pierre Lorant, a 35-year-old fisherman who lived here with his wife and three children, this space also housed a bustling cabaret frequented by fishermen, merchants, and soldiers. In the summer of 1744, it even served as lodging for British prisoners of war—a building steeped in stories.
Today, this reconstructed venue captures the rustic charm and lively atmosphere of Lorant’s establishment—offering hearty meals, costumed service, and a dining experience steeped in history.
From the moment you sit at your table set in authentic pewter dishware, you’ll feel transported to a different era. Everything from the décor to the dishes channels the spirit of 18th-century Louisbourg—while still offering modern comforts and great food.
