Job Summary
Step into history this summer! The Fortress Louisbourg Association is seeking energetic and musically talented individuals to join our Fife and Drum Corps as Historical Interpreters. This unique role brings the 18th-century military presence at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site to life through performance and public interaction.
As a Fife and Drum Historical Interpreter, you’ll engage visitors through music, historical interpretation, and teamwork, all while wearing an authentic period uniform. It’s a great opportunity to gain public speaking experience, work closely with youth volunteers, and be part of a fun, historically immersive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret the life of an 18th-century field musician.
- Perform daily in scheduled Fife and Drum Corps presentations.
- Interact with visitors and answer questions about 18th-century music and military life.
- Wear and maintain the uniform of a historical field musician.
- Collaborate with youth volunteers and fellow interpreters.
- Assist with the care and maintenance of musical instruments.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the Fife and Drum Team Lead.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Reliable transportation to the Fortress of Louisbourg.
- Experience playing fife or drum music (18th-century style preferred).
- Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and the occasional evening.
- Outgoing, confident, and comfortable performing in front of an audience.
- Willingness to learn and contribute to a team environment.
- Strong sense of professionalism and punctuality.
- Interest in history, music, or the Fortress of Louisbourg.
- French language skills are an asset, but not required.
