Job Summary

Step back in time and become part of the story at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site! The King’s Bakery is one of the most beloved features of the fortress, and we’re looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team.

If you love early mornings, enjoy baking fresh bread, and would love working with wood-fired ovens, this might just be the role for you! You’ll also get the unique experience of wearing the costume of an 18th-century baker while bringing history to life for our visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Start and maintain wood fires in stone ovens for baking.
  • Measure, mix, and roll dough to bake fresh bread daily.
  • Operate stone ovens with care and attention to safety.
  • Engage with visitors by sharing the story of the King’s Bakery and its historical significance.
  • Handle sales transactions and maintain accurate daily sales logs.
  • Keep the bakery area clean, organized, and welcoming.
  • Wear and properly maintain period-appropriate costumes.
  • Share general information about the Fortress of Louisbourg and its experiences, including restaurants, gift shops, and programming.

Requirements

  • Reliable transportation to the Fortress of Louisbourg.
  • Availability for early mornings, weekdays, and weekends.
  • An outgoing and approachable personality.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Professionalism and a positive attitude.
  • A passion for history and the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site.
  • French language skills are an asset but not required.
