Job Summary

Looking for a summer job that’s truly unique? Join the team at the King’s Bakery, one of the most popular attractions at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site! This position is perfect for students who enjoy early mornings, working with their hands, and being part of a historic experience.

As an 18th-century baker, you’ll start wood-fired ovens, bake fresh bread daily, and interact with visitors while wearing traditional period attire. If you’re outgoing, love history, and want to make unforgettable memories this summer, we want to hear from you!

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Start and maintain wood fires in stone ovens for baking.
  • Measure, mix, and roll dough to bake fresh bread each day.
  • Operate stone ovens with care and attention to safety.
  • Engage with visitors by sharing stories about the King’s Bakery and its historical context.
  • Handle customer transactions and maintain a daily sales log.
  • Keep the bakery space tidy and organized.
  • Wear and properly maintain period-appropriate costumes.
  • Provide general information about the Fortress of Louisbourg and promote other experiences, including restaurants, gift shops, and evening programming.

Requirements

  • Reliable transportation to the Fortress of Louisbourg.
  • Availability for early mornings, weekdays, and weekends.
  • A positive and outgoing attitude.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and engage with the public.
  • Professionalism and dependability.
  • An interest in history and the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site.
  • French language skills are an asset but not required.
