🍻 A Historic Venue Reimagined
Housed in the original 18th-century storehouse of François Bigot, the Storehouse Tavern is a unique space where past and present meet—one pour at a time.
Bigot, who served from 1739 to 1745 as Île Royale’s commissaire-ordonnateur, earned a reputation for his capable (and cunning) leadership. His career, marked by both fortune and disgrace, left an imprint on Louisbourg’s legacy, making his former warehouse the perfect home for a tavern rooted in bold character and rich history.
In 2021, the La Taverne Storehouse project was launched to breathe new life into this historic space. Through partnerships with local breweries, cideries, and distilleries, the Tavern was created as a venue for:

Exclusive Fortress-inspired beverages
What was once an underutilized space is now a signature destination for visitors looking to sip, savour, and experience history firsthand.
🥃 Featuring the Legendary Fortress™ Rum
A bottle of Fortress™ Rum is more than a drink—it’s a story, a setting, and a sensory journey.
In the 18th century, Louisbourg was home to more than 75 taverns (that’s just the legal ones). Rum was the drink of choice, from rowdy cabarets on the waterfront to elite officers’ parties hosted with spiced rum punch chilled with rare summer ice.
Fortress™ Rum is inspired by this deep-rooted tradition.
