Remember those childhood nights dressed in mystical costumes, hopping from door to door, seeking sweet treats?

Ah, the golden era when even the smallest scare was a thrill. Now, as adults, we’ve elevated the game. The Fortress of Louisbourg Association intends to host a spine-chilling truly Sinister Soiree, complete with costumes, music, Mediums, monsters and more!  The 4th Annual Sinister Soirée is poised to deliver an enchanting evening of revelry, entertainment, and perhaps a touch of the supernatural.

Get ready for a thrilling experience on Saturday, October 26th, as the eagerly awaited Annual Sinister Soiree makes its grand return. Prepare to unleash your creativity as you don your most captivating costume for a night that promises to be fang-tastic! This event will ensue throughout multiple venues at the Fortress of Louisbourg, including the vibrant Storehouse Tavern and the exquisite Grandchamps Restaurant, both occupied with live music! 

Creep and crawl through the historic streets of the Fortress, where buskers boast, to lure you with their mesmerizing performances. And later, if you dare, embark on the haunted Crypt Walk, an adventure sure to send shivers down your spine. From here groups may choose to make their way to the Chapel of the Dead to our spook-tacular selfie station and photo booth!

For those Monster-Mashers, the Kings Magasin will host a DJ’d Dance, that will keep the witches grooving and the warlocks moving!

Moreover, if you are one bold of heart and looking to connect with the other side, seek guidance from tarot card readers and mediums and unlock the mysteries that lie beyond the veil.

Arrival at Fortress: 5:00pm-

Guest & ghouls arrives, park their vehicles in the parade square and designated on-site parking locations.

Once parked, guest embark on a journey through time and realms,

to enjoy performances throughout the grounds of The sinister Fortress!

 

The Corpse Café: 5:00-8:00pm

Tea/ Coffee, non-alcoholic drinks & food for purchase.

 

Witch’s Shop: 5:30-10:45pm

Shop the Witch’s Shop for all of your spooky desires.

 

Tarot & Medium Readers: 5:30-10:45pm

(Bookings will be made by individual Mediums and Tarot card readers on the night of the event.)

Open a door to the other-side, join an array of tarot, medium, and other clairvoyant services hosted by multiple special guests at various locations on site.

Mag a sin, with Bare Bones bar: 5:30-11:00pm

(Last call 10:30pm)

DJ dance party.

Beer, cider, and mixed drinks for purchase.

 

The King’s Bastion: 5:30-10:45pm

The Crypt Walk, haunted tours.

We ID, this is a 19+ event and under Nova-Scotia Liquor laws it is imperative that our Bartenders ID any guest who wishes to be served and appears under 30 years of age. Please, don’t forget your ID.

Please no dinking and driving. The Fortress of Louisbourg Association and Parks Canada would like to continue hosting events such as Sinister Soirée, we urge that if you are drinking or consuming substances, that you do so responsibly for your own sake as well as that of others.

Things to go bump in the night…

Louisbourg is laden with a dark history; countless remains lie beneath the soil long forgotten. The stories of the present and past claim that the restless spirits roam and wander through the buildings of the Fortress. Some say the Fortress is haunted; and they search for proof in the dark, while others prefer to leave it a mystery. Guided by candlelight, hear voices from the past tell their stories, but only if you’re brave enough to listen. 

You too can be a part of this earie fun by participating in an evening of guided ghost hunting, at five different locations throughout the Fortress, brought to you by Haunts from the Cape!  

The 19+ Experience: 

This experience is unique, as we are offering a stay and play package!  Included in your ticket price is the option to camp in the King’s Bastion with the spirits and ghouls of Fortress past.  This offer includes a pre-set-up tent for you and your group.  We have tents of 4 and tents of 6, please let us know how to best accommodate you.  NOTE: If you choose to stay and play, it is important to note that you MUST BYOCG, bring your own camping gear! The tents will be set up and pre-determined for you, however, the Fortress of Louisbourg DOES NOT have enough sleeping bags, sleeping matts or camping chairs to accommodate guests; that said, please bring your own so that you can have the most comfortable stay possible. Lest we forget, monsters do go after toes when they’re not tucked beneath blankets.

Arrival 6:00pm (Gate open to ticket holders at 5:00pm) 

Departure 8:30am on the 29th of September 

 

Put on your ghost hunting hats and tag along with Haunts from the Cape to uncover the mysteries that the Fortress after sunset.

Schedule for the evening: 

5:00pm- Arrival to site 

Arrive on-site and set up camp! Feel free to bring your belongings over to your pre-selected tent in the light of day while the spirits are at bay.  

5:00pm-11:00pm- Storehouse Tavern Open  

Let’s get the festivities started with some snacks and a drink or two! 

5:30 and 8:00- Canteen  

Food and beverage services will be available 

7:45pm- Dark History tour of site 

Curious about Louisbourg’ s dark history, and paranormal activities that happen behind closed doors? Join us on a short tour around site to hear the stories of murder, mayhem, and madness. 

9:00pm- Division of Groups 

Haunts from the Cape will divide up attendees to go on a paranormal investigation of the site.

Parka’s Sleepover

Fourth anual Parka Sleepover.
Looking for some end-of-summer Fortress family fun? Join Parka at the Fortress of Louisbourg for Parka’s fourth annual Great Sleepover! Family camp-out at Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site. Spend an evening under the stars. Kids can enjoy a scavenger hunt, a night time dance party and marshmallow roasting around the campfire. Close out summer with Parka’s Great Family Sleepover!
All activities included but food is extra (FLA Canteen). Ticket prices are based on two adults, you are expecting more than 2 adults in your party. This is an all ages event. Children must be supervised at all times.

5:30 pm Saturday arrival, sleepover, all must depart by 9:00 am the next morning (Sunday).

Acadian Day

The Acadian people, pioneers and builders of the country, have celebrated Acadian Day on August 15th since 1881, the year in which the first national Acadian convention was held in Memramcook, New Brunswick. The National Acadian Day Act was passed by the Government of Canada in 2003.

 

National Acadian Day highlights the contribution of Acadians to the Canadian cultural fabric, recognizes their historical presence on the land, and celebrates their cultural specificity in all its diversity.

This year, we will be celebrating National Acadian Day at the Fortress with music and food in our Storehouse Tavern. Please follow us on Facebook for more details on this celebration.

Free Book Reading – “The Adventures of Guillaume Batisseur: The Wishing Well”

Book reading August 9th from 2:00pm to 4:30pm at the Louisbourg Library.  This book reading is “The Adventures of Guillaume Batisseur: The Wishing Well’,  a historical fiction, co-authored by mother and son duo Katherine M.M Jones and 10-year-old William J. Jones. This book was inspired by a desire to commemorate William’s early love for History – especially Fortress Louisbourg”. Katherine M. Jones.

This event is a free book reading but we have limited spots available(20) so grab your spot before they’re gone. This event will also include a Q&A about the book along with some Candy given away from William’s small business Cool Cotton Candy Co.

Emancipation Day

On August 1, commemorate Emancipation Day and learn about Black History at Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site.

Join a noontime procession, a special cannon firing, and a commemorative flag raising. Participate in a special tour that shares the history of enslavement at the site.

Historic Places Week

Get ready to step back in time and experience Historic Places Week at the breathtaking Fortress Of Louisbourg! Prepare to be amazed and transported to another era. For Historic Places Week at Fortress of Louisbourg, additional reenactors will add to the interpretation, setting up along the waterfront, an area historically busy with activities of trade and commerce welcoming visitors from around the world!
