STORY
OF LOUISBOURG
The French established Louisbourg
in 1713. It was soon one of the busiest seaports in North America, thriving
on fishing and trade. Twice besieged and twice captured, the fortified town
was abandoned by the British in 1768. Today, the Fortress of Louisbourg
National Historic Site is North America’s largest reconstruction. Through
their research, historians and archaeologists present a rich treasury of
Louisbourg’s 18th-century past.
