The Destouches Coffee Shop was where the citizens of Louisbourg, regardless of class, would come to visit master baker Nicholas Pugnant dit Destouches. Destouches and his family prepared and sold delicious baked goods and rented their oven to private citizens who needed to fire their prepared dishes. Today you can visit Destouches’ reconstructed shop to sample the modern wares.
Made from traditional Old World recipes, Destouches’ sweets are sure to be a crowd pleaser. Or, if your taste buds are clamoring for something more modern, you can buy sandwiches, wraps, and cold drinks here as well.
The Destouches Coffee Shop is located along the Quay in the reconstructed Fortress town, halfway between the piers.
The Soldier’s Quarters in the King’s Bastion housed about 500 men in rooms that housed twelve to sixteen men two to a bunk. I was not very comfortable.
